The establishment of FRA
The calamity of war befell the Indochina peninsula in the 1970s. Numerous refugees poured into Thailand and neighboring countries. The war lasted for more than twenty years, and finally was reconciled through the power of international coordination and support in 1993. All four Indochina countries, Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos and Burma, had been destroyed by the war and faced the staggering task of reconstruction.
Cambodia was particularly hard hit. The streets were filled with homeless vagrant children, as well as the poor and the sick. It was a sorrowful sight. In view of this, based on the notion of humanistic rescue and social education, Ms. Wei-Lin Yang, who participated in the service of Indochina refugee relief, began to organize ˇ§The Field Relief Agency of Taiwanˇ¨ˇ]FRAˇ^and started providing educational as well as vocational assistance to Cambodian poor students, refugee children and impoverished villagers from April 1994. Soon after, FRA was granted accreditation and formally established in Taipei, Taiwan in July 1996. |
